Something wasn't right. Not right, at all. Scout could feel it. Not only was there a strange feeling in the air, there was a strange silence accompanying it. Having just respawned, he wasn't anywhere near where the battle was taking place, but the silence was too strong. Too unnatural for what was happening around them. No far off gunshots, no screams... just silence. This... couldn't be good.
He had to run. Now. Luckily, he remembered where he had last died, which couldn't have been too far from the battle area. Damn BLU Sniper... how he managed to get Scout at full speed was beyond him, but the bastard somehow did it. Despite how pissed he felt he should be, he was too disturbed, too worried, and for reasons unknown. This is what worried him most. Running... running... running... was it really this far to the point? Without noise guiding him, it was difficult. He just had to get there. Wherever "there," was. Why woudn't his feet go faster, damnit!
Then he skidded to a halt. As he stared at the sight in front of him, he now understood why everyone had stopped. How... did this happen?
Frail and limp, with the RED Engineer stooped over here, was Welder. The thick trail of blood running down her face and neck soaked her dingy, yellow work shirt and overalls, along with the ground surrounding her. Without thinking, Scout sped to her side, nearly pushing Engineer to the ground as he wrapped his shaking arms around her unmoving frame. "H-how...? She's... she's not on any team! How did she get hit?!" his voice nearly broke as he buried his face into her neck, not seeming to care about the blood that lingered. "How the fuck did this happen?!"
Engineer stood, dusting himself off in the process before kneeling down next to Scout to place a hand on his shoulder. "She'll respawn soon, son. It's alright..." His hand was soon shrugged away forcefully. Scout's head shot up to face the Engineer, anger printed all over. "Respawn? I know she's going to respawn! I want to know how the hell this happened!"
None of the BLU team, nor anyone else on the RED team spoke. No one knew how exactly she had been hit, and no one knew why, other than one person, who was not about to bring it up. The Announcer was not very happy about this incident.
And why was it taking such a long time for her to disappear and respawn? This bothered Scout the most as he held Welder close and hid his face once more. His shaking and jagged breathing had become more apparent, as well. "RESPAWN, DAMN IT...!"
And she disapeared.
Relief spread through both teams, aside from RED's Scout. He was angry. No... more than angry, he was pissed. Standing up, he glanced down at the blood-soaked bandages on his hands. How...? Shakily, he pulled out the pistol he had hidden in his bag and angrily aimed it at the nearest BLU member. "HOW DID YOU KILL HER?!" The Heavy and the Soldier from RED jumped to grab his arms as the BLU team jumped back. It appeared that the cease-fire would last until Welder had finally respawned.
"WHO THE FUCK DID IT?! LET GO OF ME!" Scout squirmed to get free, waving his pistol around madly. RED's Spy uncloaked himself after grabbing the gun away as Engineer took Scout's other weapons. After a few more moments of struggling, Scout dropped to his knees and gave up. "How...?"
Welder had respawned, but not where one would normally. Appearing in the Announcer's quarters, she dropped to her knees, herself, tears stinging her eyes. She knew exactly what happened. And she knew Announcer knew, as well. This was not going to end well...
